NOTHING IS DOING THAT IN MDOC

I've been working as an RN in a large metropolitan county jail for 6+ months... Same pay as registry nursing in hospitals, but with FULL benefits (dental!!) & 8.5 hour shifts. I really like it. It's not as autonomous as ER nursing but a little bit more autonomous than med-surg. It's also the least "team"-based nursing. Where I work, in the jail hospital, it's usually one RN & 2 county sheriffs per unit per shift. Units can have anywhere from 8 to 22 patients. There's usually a CNA & an LPN too. I'm taking less crap from jail detainee patients than I ever did from ER patients -- because there's always a sheriff keeping them on their good behavior. I really like it.
